I think Stand By Me by Ben E. King continues to sound wonderful after sixty years. Perhaps what has kept it popular is the lyrics alongside the great sound and chord progression. Music is a comfort, but when the listener can also relate to the lyrics I think that makes it extra special.

Most hymns. I popular old hymn keeps its popularity along with the religion it is part of. “And did those feet in Ancient time” is an example.

The first song to come to my mind is Ohio by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. The song is about the Kent State shooting. The song never gets old.
